NEARBY ATTRACTIONS
Interested in a trip to Sullivan County? Not sure what to do and see? Here are some suggested itineraries to get you started!
DUSHORE - EXPERIENCE SMALL TOWN LIVING
Biggest Town in the County: With a Borough population of 500 and a County population of only 6,500, visitors will find life is very different and refreshing from the "big" city. The Borough of Dushore sits in a valley on to of the mountains. It is the county's commercial center where all of life's "basics," are within walking distance from the hotel.
Eat, Shop, Fill-up: The small town offers breakfast diners, lunchenettes, grocery store, banks, library, post office, gas stations, medical clinic, and variety stores. Founded in 1859, the town has a distinct French history. It is named after a Frenchman, Aristide Du-petit Thouars, who ventured from France to Philadelphia, to the nearby French Asylum. Du Thouars was given the area of Dushore to farm. Difficult to pronounce, Dushore was adopted as an anglicized spelling of his name.
What’s best about it: Dushore's unique location and close proximity to two of PA’s most beautiful State Parks, Rickett’s Glen and World’s End, makes it the perfect land or "shore" for "Du-ing" outdoor activities. Kast Pond is a perfect spot for fishing or a picnic. St Basil’s Church, built by German immigrants, is a picturesque sight on the hill above the town. In February, the Wine and Chocolate Walk is popular, in August, Dushore's Founder’s Day is a highlight of the summer, and in December, the Christmas in Dushore shops and parade, round out the year.
Amazing Natural Formation
Take a drive to Shrewsbury Township, and you will be rewarded with a supremely atypical sight: a rock formation consisting of one large rock balancing precariously upon a smaller rock. A formation such as this one should wiggle, as if it is being tickled, hence the name. The rock is located on private land, so make sure to check in with the Ticklish Rock Hunting Club for permission to access the structure.
